He was born in Athens and studied theory and guitar at the National
Conservatory of Athens. Since 1980 he has turned to the study of Greek
traditional music and to the knowledge of traditional instruments such as
oud, constantinopolitan and mainland lute, tabouras and tabouras bowed,
constantinopolitan and cretan lyre, Kapadokia’s Kemanes, ney, kavali, flute,
etc. He was awarded the Diploma of Byzantine Music by studying with L.
Angelopoulos.
Since 1985 he has taught in several conservatories and music schools and has
given
seminars all over Greece. In 1996 he introduced the course of theory and
practice of
maqam with combined with the modes of Byzantine music. From 2003, he has
taught a course entitled «Byzantine Modes and Maqam» to graduate choristers
in the context of a postgraduate course which has begun at the Conservatory
of Athens where he is responsible for the course of Greek music in which he
teaches the history of Byzantine and traditionalmusic, theory, singing and
oud.
He published, in cooperation with P. Erevnidis, a book with a collection of
songs and music entitled «Greek Composers of Constantinople 17th-18th
century» («Domos» publishing).
With the creation of the band «Aegean Forces», with which he has made
concerts in Greece,
Europe, America and Australia, he has since 1985 initiated a creative route
that follows in the footsteps of tradition.
He has worked with the most significant Greek singers and musicians in
concerts, albums, radio and television.
He has a rich personal discography as well as with his band «Aegean Forces»

has also composed music for theatrical plays [«Paraloges» 1994, «Fones
Ginekon» 1995 (Women’s Voices)] and for the cinema [«Gonia Paradisou»
(Paradise’s corner) 1998, «Anthos tis Limnis» (Lake’s flower) 1999, «Enas
lismonimenos poietis» (A forgotten poet) 2001].
