SOCRATIS SINOPOULOS

 

 

 

 

Born in Athens in 1974. He studied classic guitar with V. Gratsounas, theory of Western European music with M. Adamis, Byzantine music and folk song, at first at S. Kara’s school and later on at the private school of I .Tsiamoulis, by participating in the school’s children’s choir which performed concerts in Greece and Europe.

In 1988 he started courses of Constantinopolitan lyre and lute with Ross Daly and, after one year, he became a member of the band «Labyrinthos» (Labyrinth) and participated in every one of the band’s performance: tours throughout Greece and Europe, seminars and recordings.

In 1990 he represented Greece in the International Meeting for Young Musicians (JMF -

Jeunesse Musicale de France) in Paris.

He collaborated with some of the most significant Greek musicians, composers and singers who represent different musical directions, from traditional music to Jazz, by reintroducing the Constantinopolitan lyre to Geek music. In 1999 he was awarded with the State’s Award for young artists «Melina Mercouri» by the Ministry of Culture.

He is a candidate for the title of «Doctor» for the section of Music Studies of the University of Athens
