PERIKLIS PAPAPETROPOULOS

 

 

 

 

He was born in Athens and grew up in Heraklion, Crete. He started his involvement with Cretan music at the age of sixteen by playing lute and bulgari with Andonis Xilouris («Psarandonis») at cretan music scenes and fairs.

In 1985 he met Ross Daly. He was taught saz and tanbur by him and later on he was a member of Ross Daly’s band «Labyrinthos» (Labyrinth) playing in concerts, theatrical performances, in recordings and on television.

Experienced and recognizable as a teacher of saz and Constantinopolitan lute, he has taught at the school of the «Association of the Dissemination of National Music», at the Experimental Music High School of Palini, at theAthens Conservatory and at the music laboratory «Labyrinthos». Many of his students are today well-known artists of those instruments in Greece and abroad. He has published two solo albums and has several collaborations with musicians in bands of Greek and oriental music.
