THOMAS APOSTOLOPOULOS

 

 

 

 

 

He was born in 1963 in Rizomata, Imathia. He studied the Law in the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki and his postgraduate studies were about the provisions of the canon law for the religious music. He got a degree and diploma in Byzantine music, with the teachers Dimitrios Douloufakis and Dimitrios Sourlatzis, respectively.

He has played the oud since 1982. In 1992, he started teaching Byzantine music, Oriental music theory and the oud in music schools and also in the School of Traditional and Byzantine Music “EN CHORDAIS”.

In 1997 he was nominated a Doctor in the Music Studies Department of Athens University. The supervisor professor was Grigoris Stathis and the topic of his paper dissertation was: “Apostolos Konstas from Chios island and his contribution to the theory of music art”. From 1999 to 2002 he taught in the University of Macedonia in  Thessaloniki at the Department of Music Science and Art.

He has prepared the scientific documentation of many albums of the cultural organization “EN CHORDAIS” and he is the coordinator of the Work Group for the History of Music, an activity which takes place within the European project “MediMuses”.
